Literature Text

"A moment is all it takes to notice the loss. But that moment is almost never in time to help you get it back. And it breaks you even more so you wish you could never think; you never knew...but you do!" Those were the thoughts running through her mind as she was passing on the same roads that used to take her home;her childhood home...

She couldn't pay much attention to those fugitive thoughts, since she had to watch the road she was driving on,but it seemed deserted that early morning. The music was set out loud and was entering her every pore. She couldn't remember where her thoughts began so she abandoned them and left her mind in the sway of the music. But soon, the sad thoughts came back to her, deeper because of the sad song played by the cd.She could change it easily, but she didn't and let the heartbreaking notes fill her soul as the tears were pouring out of her eyes.Everything turned foggy, with small clear moments when she wiped her tears, carelessly. As she left them conquer her view before washing them away, she could barley see what laid ahead. So, surprised was she to see a sudden turn at the edge of a precipice where the sea wall ended. With the one hand she had on the wheel, she tried to turn the car as she pressed the brakes. The car skidded and stopped at the very edge of the road.

Chaterine remained looking ahead, but seeing nothing. The chaotic images in her head were blinding her:the sea wall she loved climbing on as a child...the road she loved ridding the motorcycle on at very high speed...and this turn she always joked about...she knew it all so well, but forgot...the ten years spent away erased her beautiful memories...

All her life she looked for something she thought she never had as a child;always being punished for her attempts to have fun and enjoy her young years. But now she knew she would have never gotten there without those moments and she wasn't thinking at the edge of that turn, but at her accomplishments in life;her extraordinaire skill for acrobatics that made her the best one and got her so many awards...

She turned her head and saw the blue sea reflecting the light of the sun...a heavenly view she didn't took the time to admire, since she returned on that road...something else forgotten...Since the first moment she heard of this trip she found it unpleasant, but she had no choice. She had to take it.As a child she felt enthralled here, but now she could see she wasn't.Seeing the doves fly towards the place were the sea and sky were as one  and the sea wall was rising up as a fortress wall to protect this small piece of haven, filled her heart with joy. This beautiful view was owned by her and her brothers;the only that ever came here. This place protected them in the crazy moments when they ran from home and was also the one to bring them back the ration; it made them notice they need a home;they need their parents...

But something made her leave this place in the shade of hate. What was it didn't matter anymore. She could see clearly it was wrong. She always thought this place was out of freedom for her,but it was the only place she could be herself. She noticed now that her scheduled life melted the real her in a false image of a free woman. She thought that if she would challenge life she would be free, but she wasn't.She was a produced image...almost as a marionette...She had to be herself to be free and only here she could be so.In this place where everybody knew her well and really understood her.

She looked down the precipice and thought that a few days ago she said true freedom is found only in death..."Just look how close you were to freedom..."
I wrote this for a challenge where you had to write a short story in which the character represents a concept....
